In Their Own Words

Joey is five and a half and has been swimming with Mary Anne for 5 years and I wouldn’t have it any other way. She is not only a phenomenal teacher, but she has the patience of a saint and the kids love her. We are beyond grateful to have Mary Anne!!

Several years ago, I was too scared to jump into a pool let alone pass the BSA swim test. My parents found Mary Anne by what can only be described as a miracle. She was more than willing to work with me even though I was significantly older than most of her other students. I met with her before a lesson to get to know her and decided to trust her. Her teaching method is spot on for anyone with fear of water. No other swim lesson would have done it for me. She never had me do anything I wasn’t comfortable with doing, and yet she got me to pass the swim test!

We have a pool and knew it would be critical for our son to learn how to float at a very early age. Abel was 10 months old when he had his first lesson with Mary Anne. Within a few short weeks, he had learned the skills needed to survive a fall in the water. He is 2.5 years old now and we have continued the lessons with Mary Anne. He is very comfortable in the water and truly enjoys swimming.

Taking my 6 year old son, Christopher to Mary Anne was one of the most life changing, positive experiences we have ever had. After many years of unproductive swim lessons and bad experiences at other swim lessons, I knew Christopher needed one on one attention. Before Mary Anne, Christopher hated swim lessons and was fearful of deep water. At the start of our first lesson, he was scared to get in the water. After just one short lesson with her, he got out of the water smiling and said “ Why can’t all swim lessons be like this?” My response was “They all should be!” Mary Anne not only got my son over his fear of the water, but most importantly taught him how to be safe in the water and survive. He looked forward to going to each of his lessons. He became a fish! I wish I found her sooner. He made a very quick progression learning basic survival skills, breathing techniques, different strokes, swimming the length of the pool, and even learned a flip turn! Finally he was comfortable in the water! I’m truly amazed by Mary Anne when I watch her work with her students. She really formed a trust bond with my son that he needed to feel safe in the water. I’m grateful for her and will be taking my daughter to her! Worth every penny!

It all started when my mother-in-law asked about water babies. When I did my research for my area Hillsborough, Mary Anne Bein was the designated instructor. I reach out to Mary Anne and she was so helpful and answered all my questions. I had to put my son into a class that will teach him safety first and swimming second.

My son cried before even getting into the water. It was a shock to see him cry and cry. However, even though he cried he did everything that Mary Anne asked him to do. Over time the crying dissipated. Jamie was 10 months old when he started. Now he is 2 and incredible in the water due to Mary Anne’s training. I can promise if you keep sticking with it, your baby will be phenomenal in the water, but more importantly, they will be safe, which is what every parent wants. I highly recommend Mary Anne as your instructor.
